DMX-R100 Digital Console Software Version 2.0 UnveiledR100 MADI Expansion Card Planned July 26, 2001Sony Electronics will offer version 2.0 software for the DMX-R100 digital console. Along with the new R100 MADI Expansion Card that will be available in December, version 2.0 software will add powerful features and functionality to the popular console.
"Having sold approximately 1,000 units worldwide since it started shipping last October, the DMX-R100 is widely recognized for its extremely high-sonic quality, flexibility and ease-of-use," said Courtney Spencer, vice president of professional audio products at Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company.
DMX-R100 version 2.0 software will enable surround-sound processing at double sample rates (88.2 and 96kHz). It will also feature such supplementary surround options as sub-level control on each channel and negative divergence control that will work in conjunction with five channel panning. New dynamic automation functions include enhanced trim and audition modes.
Additional features include:
- Fader naming on Channel GUI; Equalizer and Dynamic library function;
- Access follow solo function;o Dither mode for PGM output; ando Optional mode for floppy disk/DOS compatible title data.
Sony also is announcing plans for a forthcoming DMX-R100 MADI card. This new hardware expansion option will greatly increase the number of audio channels that can be connected to the mixer. The card supports 48 input and 48 output channels of audio I/0, providing an ideal method of directly interfacing the console with MADI-capable recorders such as the Sony PCM-3348HR DASH recorder. The MADI option board will also incorporate the ability to link or `cascade' dual mixers [both boards will require MADI cards to be fitted].
"The ability to link two R100s together is an invaluable feature for engineers and producers with projects that require 96-channel operation," Spencer said. "Many studios have already installed multiple units, and this new cascade option will offer them with the feature-set they need."
Version 2.0 software for Sony's DMX-R100 digital console is scheduled for formal introduction at the 111th AES Convention in New York and will be available in September. The MADI expansion card will be available in December. For more information, visit their web site at www.sony.com. |
