Continuing the success of the Compass Series acoustic guitars, Yamaha Corporation of America introduces three new models at Summer NAMM 2001: the CPX15M, a Cedar-topped acoustic, hand-built to exacting standards in Yamaha's facility in Hamamatsu, Japan; the CPX8SY, the latest member of the popular Ocean line; and the limited edition CJX12S.

With a solid American Cedar top, the CPX15M produces a rich and distinctive acoustic sound. Simple and elegant styling is accented by Abalone and Mother-of-Pearl decorations on the headstock and around the soundhole.

"The CPX15M is simply a beautiful instrument," explains David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "In addition to its understated beauty, the Cedar top delivers a sound that separates this instrument from the pack."

The CJX12S, a limited edition model, will enjoy a U.S. market production run of only 200 pieces in the fall of 2001. The solid Spruce top and Agethis back and sides are painstakingly finished in a high gloss black, accentuated by a simple Abalone ring around the soundhole and Mother-of-Pearl position markers.

Summer NAMM also marks the continued growth of the Compass Ocean series. With two new finishes, Tropical Marine Blue and Morning Sea Violet, the CPX8SY makes a visual statement worthy of its sonic power. Both finishes enhance the design's dramatic Sycamore body and solid Sitka Spruce top.

The Compass Series is distinguished by a distinctively comfortable single cutaway body that offers enhanced playability with no loss in tone. The guitars' great sound is fully realized by Yamaha's System 41 preamp and pickup system, which blends an L.R. Baggs ribbon transducer, a condenser microphone with gooseneck, and a full-featured onboard preamp to offer unprecedented acoustic realism.

"The combination of acoustic realism, striking looks, and superb playability make these new entries ideal companions both on-stage and in the studio," notes Gary Cook, product manager, Yamaha Guitars. "The level of specification, materials, features and construction in these guitars set a new benchmark—not only for Yamaha, but for the entire guitar industry."

All guitars maintain Yamaha's tradition of affordable quality. The CPX15M and CJX12S include a professional hardshell case.
