July 20, 2001

After 3 years of joint development by Dutch underground vacuum tube legend Tom Barmentloo and Electro-Harmonix' Mike Matthews along with the entire EH engineering staff, Electro-Harmonix announces the immediate availability of the Tube Zipper. The Tube Zipper is a tube-powered envelope follower and distortion, which together can produce wild overtones on extreme settings. Featuring two 12AX7EH vacuum tubes, the Zipper allows for plenty of tweaking with six control knobs - input gain, drive, sensitivity, frequency (to set the start/stop and peak filter frequencies), resonance (controls the Q of the filter, which can be driven into-self oscillation) and master volume. A pair of switches also allow you to have the filter sweep up or down, and change the sweep mode between a smooth envelope follower or adding modulation to the envelope for a trill-like effect. According the Matthews, "the Tube Zipper is the greatest product we've introduced in over 20 years. Just picture your guitar signal massaged by a complex set of filters moving through a tube maze." An AC adapter is included, and the Tube Zipper also offers true bypass. Included instructions offer tips on how to use the pedal along with some suggested settings to try. MSRP on the Tube Zipper is $378, and it comes with a one-year warranty. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.ehx.com/.
