Drawing on years of experience as a designer and manufacturer of speaker systems, Yamaha Corporation of America, Professional Audio, will debut the newest addition to its line of near-field monitors, the MSP3, at Summer NAMM 2001. Engineered for today's multimedia environments, the MSP3 utilizes many of the same technologies found in Yamaha's professional level monitor systems, the MSP5 and MSP10.

This two-way powered speaker system is designed to provide high quality monitoring for the home studio, computer-based recording and educational markets, as well as personal computers, gaming systems and music keyboards without integrated speakers.

"The phenomenon of home and computer-based recording prompted Yamaha to develop a powered monitor that would be a professional alternative to traditional multimedia speaker systems," states Wayne Hrabak, Pro Audio marketing manager, Pro Audio & Combo Division.

The MSP3 features a 4-in. woofer housed in a bass reflex design cabinet, reproducing a surprisingly tight low end. A 3/4-in. dome tweeter provides a smooth, high frequency response to beyond 20 kHz. Internally powered, the MSP3 provides 20W of output power.

To add to their flexibility, Yamaha has included two signal inputs, with balanced XLR connectors, 1/4-in. phone jacks and RCA connectors on each speaker. In addition, each MSP3 has trim switches that allow users to custom-tailor both low and high frequency response of the speaker to suit different applications, allowing the monitors to be easily and optimally installed in a wide range of environments. Full magnetic shielding allows the MSP3 system to be positioned near sensitive recording equipment and media.

"Drawing on the recent success of the Yamaha MSP5 and MSP10 systems, Yamaha has gone a step further, and has met the market request for quality, reasonably priced powered monitors," adds John Schauer, Pro Audio product manager. "The MSP3s deliver that combination of high performance, versatility and cost-effectiveness."
