The Free Speech lends a vocal quality to your guitar sound by routing the guitar sound to your mouth via an included tube. As you move your mouth as you would when speaking, the guitar sound is altered by the formants of your vocal tract. The sound is actually then routed out the pedal and into your amp.
This talk box is being designed such that no external microphone is needed. You just plug the pedal in line as you would any other pedal, bite down on the tube, and play. With some practice, you'll be able to let your guitar do the talking and create new sounds.
