Danelectro was showing a pair of new pedals at the Summer NAMM show: the Spring King, a real spring reverb, and the Reel Echo tape echo simulator.

The classic spring reverb sound of the 50s and 60s can be easily added to any setup with the Spring King. The no-nonsense interface gives you three knobs for controlling the volume, tone, and reverb level. In addition to the on/off switch, the Spring King also sports a "Kick Pad." This lets you produce the unmistakable sound of kicking an amp and jolting the springs in the reverb tank into a frenzy.

Reviving another classic effect, Danelectro has created the Reel-Echo. This pedal is actually a simulation of a tape echo so it will be much more reliable and require less maintenance. Controls include:

  • Warble control to simulate the slight pitch deviation you get from a "driven tape" system.
  • Lo Fi control. Rolls off the high frequencies of each successive repeat, just like tape does.
  • Tube/Solid State control. The old tube units of course had quite a different sound than the solid state ones. You can choose either.
  • Up to 1.5 seconds of delay time
  • Sound on Sound. Like the originals, hit the "Sound on Sound" button and play on top of the lick you just recorded.

Both the Spring King and Reel Echo will carry list prices of $199.
