PRESS RELEASE

Mark Hoppus Signature Bass From Fender

July 21, 2002

Following the Tom Delonge Signature Model Stratocaster, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) announced the introduction of its newest Artist Model guitar, the Mark Hoppus Bass. As a member of one of Blink 182, Mark has helped to pioneer the rebirth of no-nonsense popular music with a fun approach towards playing that has encouraged thousands of would-be musicians to pick up a bass and learn to play.

"Blink 182 has really driven the resurgence of guitar music in recent years," says Richard McDonald, vice president of marketing for Fender electric guitars and amplifiers. "Like his partner [Blink guitarist Tom Delonge], he's helped show a lot of people that you don't need to be a maestro to make good music, and he's reminded even more that you can still have fun doing it."

For his own basses, Mark utilizes a unique yet very simple fusion of classic Fender bass elements: a Jazz Bass body with a Precision Bass neck, and one single Seymour Duncan Basslines Quarter Pound Precision Bass pickup that is controlled only by a volume knob.

The new production model is exactly the same - it's all Mark. In addition to the single pickup configuration, the Mark Hoppus model features an alder body, a 34-inch scale length, a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and medium jumbo frets.

Available in three classic finish options, including: Daphne Blue; Surf Green; or Shell Pink. A four-ply white pearloid pickguard and vintage tuners complete the classic look.

"We've had so much fun with last year's Tom Delonge Model Stratocaster that we couldn't help but work on the same project with Mark" adds McDonald. "And from what players are telling us, this project is long overdue. Guitar driven music is back and a large part of that credit goes to the guys in Blink 182."

The new Mark Hoppus Bass will be made at Fender's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. US MSRP is $699.99.
