July 21, 2002
Ibanez is taking the EDA Ergodyne bass, the instrument the company calls "the bass future," another step away from traditional basses. Instead of the rosewood fretboards found on most fretted basses (including the fretted EDA's), two new fretless models feature fingerboards of high tech Ebonol. "Ebonol fretboards are more resistant to string wear than wood," remarked Ritchie Umemura of the Ibanez USA bass division, "and because the material is more consistent than wood, there's less chance of deadspots. But best of all the material allows a much brighter, more defined tone than the conventional rosewood board."
All EDA basses feature bodies of Luthite, a Ibanez magnetic pickup, and a Mono-Rail II bridge with Fishman piezo elements.
The EDA900F SVF 4-string fretless is available in Silver Flat finish and has a list price of $799.99. The EDA905FGP 5-string fretless is available in Gray Pewter finish and lists for $899.99.
