M-Audio today announced Sonica, an easy to use, audio upgrade for laptops, desktops, and closed systems.
"We have a solution for people who want the best quality sound available but don't want to, or can't open their systems," said Jason Ivan, Director of Product Marketing for the M-Audio Consumer Products Group. "By using Sonica to upgrade their audio, users no longer have to open their system, add cards, deal with new system configurations, and reassemble a system in the hope that everything will operate as before. No technical expertise is required," added Mr. Ivan.
The M-Audio family of products brings to the consumer the same level of advanced technology that has allowed them to dominate the professional audio market.
Sonica features both analog and digital output connectors. The 1/8" stereo analog connector provides crystal clear, 24-bit/96kHz pro-quality sound. Built-in SRS TruSurround XT technology allows the user to experience surround sound while playing games or DVDs. Gamers and users watching DVDs will encounter the full impact of multi-dimensional sound while using stereo speakers. Sonica's optical connector will pass Dolby Digital 5.1 DTS encoded surround audio to enabled receivers, turning laptops or desktops into true home theatre components. Sonica's optical connector also lets users download MP3 files to MiniDisc players.
Sonica is due to ship in July 2002, and will be distributed in major retail stores throughout North America, and will soon be available in Japan and Europe. Estimated street price for Sonica is $79.99.
