Roland has announced its latest addition to the XV-Series lineup, the XV-2020 64-Voice Synthesizer Module. This 16-part multitimbral synth puts Roland's XV sounds (expandable via two SRX-Series Wave Expansion Boards) in a convenient half-rack design, while a front-panel USB port makes it easy to use with a Mac or PC. And customizing sounds is simple using the included editing software. It's like having an expandable "plug-in" synth with up to 192MB of sounds.
Like all XV synths, the XV-2020 uses Roland's powerful 4-Tone synth architecture with stereo waveforms per Tone and expressive Matrix Control. There are 1,083 waveforms onboard, translating into 768 Patches, 17 Rhythm Sets and 64 Performances \all of which have been refreshed to perfection. These sounds can be expanded via two optional SRX-Series Wave Expansion Boards, bring the total waveform memory up to a whopping 192MB.
Sounds can be processed using any of three onboard effect processors. These include dedicated reverb and chorus processors, plus a separate multi-effects processor with 40 algorithms.
The onboard USB port simplifies everything from MIDI connections to sound editing, making the XV-2020 the perfect companion to laptop-based systems or other computer music studios. Powerful editing software lets you tweak everything from the 2020's multimode filters to envelopes and effects using a graphic interface, and then store these edited sounds into User memory.
Connections to the XV-2020 include stereo 1/4-inch and RCA outputs; a stereo headphone jack; MIDI In, Out and Thru; and USB.
