New MiniDisc Recorders/Players from Sony

July 22, 2002

Adding to its line-up of professional MiniDisc recorders and players, Sony Electronics has unveiled two new MiniDisc recorders/players ideal for professional applications.

"Sony's new lightweight and portable MZ-B100 and MZ-N707 MiniDisc recorder/players represent the latest innovations in MiniDisc technology," said Paul Foschino, senior manager of reseller marketing at Sony Electronics' Business Solutions and Systems Company. "The enhanced performance and extreme portability of the new MiniDisc recorders meet the demands of our professional customers who use them in a wide range of applications, from newsgathering to concert recording."

MZ-B100 MiniDisc Recorder

According to Foschino, the MZ-B100 recorder can record up to 320 minutes using standard 80 minute MiniDiscs. The more than five hours of recording time lets the user record business meetings or press conferences without worrying about recording capacity.

The unit has been designed for a. broad range of newsgathering applications. Broadcast journalists seeking high-quality sound and long record time for interviews will appreciate the new extended battery life of the MZ-B100.

By providing 14 hours of recording time or 45 hours of playback with a single "AA" Battery, the lightweight MZ-B100 represents an important addition to the journalists' arsenal of newsgathering technology Foschino commented.

Additional features for the MZ-B100 recorder include: voice operated recording, playback speed control, and multiple track marks, which electronically mark points during recording sessions for later reference, large 3-line dot matrix LCD, built-in front speaker, easy search function, and an external microphone jack.

MZ-N707 MiniDisc Walkman Recorder and Player

The MZ-N707 MiniDisc Walkman Recorder and player offers 32-times transfer rate for MP3s or CDs from a PC to the MiniDisc player. The MZ-N707 player also offers Music Management Software, allowing storage and management of digital music files, custom playlist development, and music transfer capabilities directly into the Net MD player.

The MZ-N707 player and recorder can record up to five hours of audio on an 80-minute disk when set in the SP mode, "offering any user a tremendous amount of flexibility by not having to worry about disk space when downloading or transferring data," noted Foschino.
