July 19, 2002

With the Summer NAMM 2002 introduction of DTXPRESSII, the system moves to the next level with enhanced features to meet the demands of today's drummer. The system is currently available, and retains an MSRP of $1,295.

The DTXPRESSII offers even more performance flexibility with the addition of a new 3-zone snare pad (model TP65S) which duplicates realistic snare characteristics, including a main snare sound, rim shot and cross stick, plus a 2-zone cymbal pad (model PCY65S) that allows edge sound and cymbal mute. A redesigned kickpad can easily accommodate a double pedal.

The sound/trigger module (model DTXPIIU) has been updated with the addition of 3-zone inputs on all pad inputs, more user-friendly front panel navigation, a TO HOST connector for PC or MAC, an improved Groove Check function, and new song data. In addition, the rack has been completely re-designed with etched pipes and clamps that do not require additional memory locks for maximum stability.

"No other electronic drum set can beat the features and price point of DTXPRESSII," states Jerry Andreas, Drum marketing manager. "Adding improvements to the award-winning DTXPRESS without a price increase provides a significant value to the customer."

Like its predecessor, the DTXPRESSII features high-quality rubber pads which are sensitive to a drummer's playing style and touch. With sounds and feel that emulate an acoustic drum kit, the unit is loaded with over 1,000 onboard sounds, 128 GM voices, 80 drum kits, 127 songs, an integrated two-track sequencer, and Yamaha's unique Groove Check, an ideal practice tool which helps users hone in on the perfect groove. The backlit display provides easy viewing, even under low-light situations. DTXPRESSII also allows players to practice and perform in complete privacy, using headphones, and can connect directly to a computer without an external MIDI interface.

Dave Jewell, Drum product manager, states, "The 3-zone snare pad is perfect for playing cross stick and rim shots, and provides even more material for a live or studio performance. Plus, the redesigned kick tower allows for use of a double pedal."
