Recently, the Yamaha Oak Custom drum kit surprised the drumming community with its use of a material and the unique combination of stunning appearance, innovative construction, and sonic qualities. Yamaha Drums continues to explore the possibilities of Oak with the introduction of the Musashi snare drum line at Summer NAMM 2002.

The NSD-1365M and the NSD-1260M, small diameter snare drums that can be used as main or effect snares. Shells are constructed of 6-ply, 100% Oak, a material known for its brilliant grain, unsurpassed strength and durability. Named for the legendary 16th Century Samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, both models evoke the spirit of a warrior's weapon with an aggressive look and a distinctive, bright, and remarkably loud sound that is ideal for any live performance application. Both snare drums are currently available at a surprisingly affordable MSRP of $399.

"Yamaha has a very good reputation for high quality, expensive snare drums," states Jerry Andreas, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. "The Musashi drums will provide an affordable, yet extremely professional line of snares that gives drummers a contemporary, unique sound with a gorgeous appearance that will enhance any kit."

The NSD-1365M features a 13" x 6.5" shell, and is available in a gloss black Oak finish. Available in the same finish, the NSD-1260M contains a 12" x 6" shell, and also features a black stained groove wedge.

"The Musashi snares were developed from the needs of drummers," adds David Jewell, product manager, Yamaha Drums. "Today's high energy drummer needs a snare that can cut through the band. Using Oak for the shells gives these snares a crisp attack and surprisingly harmonic sound that can hold its own in any live situation. Plus, the deeper Oak shell and the matching groove wedge on the 12" model make these drums extremely versatile."
