New PLG150 Plug-In Boards Offer Drum and Latin Percussion Sounds

PLG 150-DR
PLG 150-PC
July 19, 2002

The Yamaha PLG150 Professional Series plug-in expansion boards are a simple, yet revolutionary, means of adding new sound processing engines and even complete synthesizers to any Modular Synthesis Plug-in compatible model. Yamaha Corporation of America, Digital Musical Instruments, continues to expand the lineup of the PLG150 Series with the Summer NAMM debut of the drum- and percussion-packed PLG150-DR and PLG150-PC. These 32-note polyphony expanders provide drum and percussion sounds for the Yamaha Motif, S Series, and CS series, as well as the PSR9000 Pro and SW1000XG, also adding new synthesis architecture, additional effects, and unprecedented polyphony expansion for their host system. Both models carry an MSRP of $249 and are currently available.

The PLG150-DR is loaded with hundreds of sampled "Live Room" drum kits, plus the core drum kits from the Motif Music Production Synthesizer. The PLG150-PC features authentic Latin percussion sounds from one of the industry's hottest sample libraries, "Latin Groove Factory," developed by Q Up Arts.

"Expanding the polyphony of Motif and S series keyboards will be an exciting enhancement for our customers," states Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments. "For instance, you can build a Motif or S90 system with 190 notes of polyphony by adding a PLG150-PC, a PLG-DR, and a PLG150-PF Piano plug-in to your system. You can never have too many notes of polyphony!"

Like other PLG series plug-ins, once the boards are installed, users may access and edit any of the voices from the front panel of the host synthesizer. Voices may be edited in detail with the bundled PC-based software editor.

"You can never have enough Drum and Percussion sounds, either," adds Avery Burdette, product manager, Digital Musical Instruments. "The Live Drums sound great and sit really well in a track, and the Latin Groove Factory has some of the best--and most authentic--Latin percussion sounds on the planet. These new models really expand the creative possibilities and are fitting additions to the series."
