Tama's Starclassic Performer and Performer EFX birch drums get a host of new improvements and features for the Winter 2003 NAMM show. The new SP522EA sets come in the new Accel Driver configuration which combines the quick response of Accel-sized rack toms (8 x 10 and 9 x 12) with the deeper sounds of a regular sized floor tom (16 x 16) and an extra deep 18 x 22 bass drum. The bass drum features an innovative tom mount which can be adjusted back and forth in 6 different positions (15mm increments) as well as the standard height adjustments. The 5.5 x 14 snare drums feature all-new strainers and butts with improved stability and sensitivity. Since some of the improvements are not easily visible (such as the new Air Pocket rubber tom feet which absorb shock and new die-cast claw hooks which protect the hoops), Tama has added a very visible new Starclassic Performer finish, Sunset Fade (SSF).
