At the Summer NAMM show in Nashville, Cakewalk announced the 2004 editions of Home Studio and Home Studio XL recording software for musicians getting started with PC-based recording. Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 and Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 XL have a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of $129.00 and $219.00 U.S., respectively.
Based on Cakewalk's SONAR 2.2 next-generation audio and MIDI technology, Home Studio 2004 provides amateur musicians and those getting started with PC-based recording, with a host of features that include: unlimited audio and MIDI tracks, 24-bit / 96 kHz recording support, audio loop construction tools, hundreds of MBs of ACID-format audio loops, real-time effects, ReWire 2.0 support, ASIO hardware support, DXi 2.0 support for multi-out synths and automation from synth interface, easier DXi synth integration with Synth Rack, multi-port Drum Grid editing, Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas DXi 2.0 and Audio Simulation DreamStation DXi 2.0 soft-synths and improved file improved (per-project audio files, intelligent file naming).

Synth Rack within Home Studio 2004. Add loops or audio tracks to Reason projects. Supports Project5, Reason, ReBirth and other ReWire clients.
ASIO Hardware Support -- In addition to existing support for WDM- and MME-compatible devices. Home Studio 2004 now supports ASIO-compatible audio hardware that includes the RME audio cards, the Creative Labs Audigy, and Digidesign's 001, 002, Mbox, and Pro Tools | HD products.
Improved Soft Synth Integration -- Home Studio 2004 provides more flexible integration of DXi software synths using the Cakewalk Synth Rack; provides intelligent Mute/Solo grouping and single-step synth insertion; synths can be patched directly to track inputs. DXi soft synth enhancements include support for multi-port soft synths and automation from synth interface (multiple ports and automation must also be supported by the DXi soft synth).
Multi-port Graphical Drum Editor -- Paint notes and polyphonic rhythm patterns with the click of
the mouse, and create complex MIDI drum parts with ease; features include drag-and-drop drum grid, pattern-brush painting, auto-erase, editable velocity tails, multi-state note event toolbar, and additional display options. Users can re-map drum parts in real-time to multiple devices on multiple ports.
Advanced Project Management -- Organize and retrieve audio data faster with per-project audio folders, enhanced asset sharing, track/clip/project-based file names, and other audio filing enhancements. Supports single audio data directory and provides new options to expand and consolidate project files, with networked media support allowing users to work on projects from multiple drives or over a network. Also supports file linking, which saves disk space by eliminating copies of regularly used loops, sound effects and other standard audio libraries.
