Kustom Introduces WAV Guitar Amp Line

WAV 212

July 22, 2003

Kustom Amplification used the Summer NAMM show to introduce WAV, a new series of guitar amplifiers with snazzy looks and a palette of tones.

Housed in curved wooden cabinets, the WAV amplifiers sculpts a player's tones using multiple preamps, each of which reconfigures its signal path to essentially create multiple amplifiers. WAV is not a modeling amp; instead it relies on its pure analog circuitry to create powerful, guitar-melting tones and warm, detailed sounds as requested. WAV also offers a digital effects section that stores unique effects scenarios for each channel.

Kustom introduced two WAV models at Summer NAMM, the 60-watt WAV 210 and the 130-watt WAV 212, using Celestion 10-inch and 12-inch speakers respectively. In the Tube Driven Lead Channel, the four preamp configurations are labeled Clean, Classic, Crunch and WAV. A Boost switch, duplicated on the amp's footswitch, bumps up the volume to make guitar solos stand out in the mix. The WAV Rhythm Channel offers two selectable flavors: one dishes up a classic fat tone while the second offers a sparkling sound with punch.

The WAV Effects Section provides a full spectrum of effect categorized into three groups: Reverbs, Delays and Modulation. Each category offers 15 selections ranging from classic Rotating Speaker sounds to Chorus and Flanger effects. Effects are manipulated via the control panel's multi-colored, high-output flourescent display screen, bright and clear enough to be seen on the darkest stage.

In addition, WAV can store four unique effect scenarios for both of its channels (Tube Driven Lead and Rhythm). These effect settings are then activated as the player changes channels, either using the WAV footswitch or via the amp's control panel. To take this flexibility even further, when the player steps on the footswitch's Boost control, yet another Effects scenario is accessed -- allowing the guitarist to set up the perfect sound for his or her solos.

The WAV's unique curved cabinet is made from 11-ply hardwood that is actually bent in a press, just like grand pianos. It is then stabilized and cured using high frequencies before receiving a coating of texturized German paint. Cosmetics include a custom-made two-color grill cloth, knurled chrome control knobs and a shapely formed resin control panel.
