NAMM Preview: Boss OC-3 Super Octave

July 08, 2003

Boss' newest octave pedal will be appearing at the Summer NAMM show in Nashville, offering the same sound as the OC-2 plus two new modes of operation - Drive Mode with distortion and Polyphonic Octave Mode - and a dedicated bass input.

The polyphonic octaving is the most significant new feature here, letting you add octaves when playing chords, and not just single notes. Or you can choose the OC-3's Drive Mode which adds a touch of distortion to the octave sounds. And if you're used to the OC-2 sound, the third mode on the pedal will give you just that.

The OC-3 is also designed with bassists in mind. By connecting a bass guitar to the dedicated Bass input, the OC-3 automatically optimizes itself to suit the range of a bass guitar.

Feature Summary

  • Polyphonic Octave effects
  • New Drive mode adds distortion to octave notes for a fatter, more aggressive tone
  • Includes the original OC-2 mode, capable of producing notes one and two octaves down
  • Poly Octave effect adjustable to play within a specific note range
  • Bass input for adapting octave sound to bass guitars
