M-Audio has announced their new Luna condenser microphone. The eye-catching lollipop design combines with state-of-the-art electronics to create an inexpensive microphone that honors vintage microphone principles. M-Audio designed Luna with the goal of delivering a microphone at an extremely affordable price. It's targeted at first time purchasers, as well as more experienced recordists wishing to add a new sound to their microphone locker. The large diaphragm cardioid condenser design is good for capturing vocals, guitar, piano–and, in fact, most sound sources. Luna also sports a solid brass capsule–a quality valued by microphone connoisseurs for the warmer sound it delivers. The 1.1" diaphragm is metallized in a proprietary evaporated gold process. Luna uses Class A FET electronics, a technology that is much quieter than the op-amp technology often found in solid state microphones. All Luna microphones are also +/- 1dB from the standard reference microphone and from each other. Says Adam Castillo, M-Audio's Marketing Director, "We specifically designed the mic to accommodate the budget of just about anybody serious about recording. It has a great sound that is very reminiscent of classic vintage microphones, yet also has a unique character all its own. And there's no getting around the fact that it's one very hot looking microphone. Luna makes a statement both visually and aurally." The Luna carries an MSRP of $249.95 and is now shipping.
