Besides originating heavy-duty hardware and multi-clamps, Tama made be best known for creating the super-thin resonant maple shell. However, at the January 2003 NAMM show, Tama took a different tack and brought out a new line of Starclassic G-Maple snare drums which featured thick, at least for Tama, 10mm thick maple shells. Commented Tama's Ace Okamoto, "The power, punch and penetration of Starclassic's thick-shelled G-Maple drums have made them some of the most popular snares in Tama history. For Nashville NAMM, Tama is building on the G-shell concept. We've got the new Starclassic SBH1455H G-Brass featuring a thicker than standard 1.5mm brass shell," continued Okamoto, "while.the new Artwood AGM250CCM G-Maple features a 10mm shell combines the incredible crack of G-force with a very affordable price. And for extra 'buzz' and volume, the Artwood G Maple comes equipped with an extra-wide 42 strand set of snappy snares." SBS1455H 5.5x14" Starclassic G Brass Snare Drum $499.99
AGM250 CCM 5x14" Artwood G Maple Snare Drum $359.99
