New Theremin Training Video Created by Moog MusicTutorial Features Bob Moog, Pamelia Kurstin, and the Etherwave Pro July 28, 2004
Moog Music announced Beginning and Advanced Theremin Techniques at the Summer NAMM show, featuring thereminist Pamelia Kurstin and long-time theremin designer Bob Moog. This free-flowing and entertaining video tutorial filmed by Moog Documentary filmmaker Hans Fjellestad presents lessons featuring Moog's newest theremin the Etherwave Pro.
Pamelia Kurstin is a world-renowned thereminist who has played and recorded with such prestigious artists as David Byrne and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. She has performed on Saturday Night Live and currently performs solo as well as with the New York-based group, Barbez. Pamelia plays and endorses Moog theremins, exclusively.
The video is presented as an informal conversation between Pamelia Kurstin and Bob Moog. Kurstin demonstrates tuning and movement techniques, and offers invaluable advice helpful to both beginning and experienced thereminists. Her training on the upright bass led to the incredible "walking bass" technique;documented for the first time ever in this video. The video concludes with Pamelia performing a sublime duet with pianist Makoto Ozone appearing courtesy of Universal Japan.
Beginning and Advanced Theremin Techniques is available on PAL or NTSC compatible DVD from Moog Music for $49. Moog customers who purchase the new Etherwave Pro theremin will find the DVD included with their purchase. Moog has also released two other theremin classics, Mastering the Theremin with Lydia Kavina and Clara Rockmore and World's Greatest Virtuosa as a set on PAL and NTSC compatible DVD. This selection is available from Moog for $49 as well.
