Evans drumheads has introduced the new EC2 "Edge Control" tom heads at the 2005 Summer NAMM show.

Developed in partnership with drummer/inventor Bob Gatzen, the EC2 features an Edge Control ring mounted underneath two plies of 7mil film. By controlling edge vibration, instead of eliminating it, the ring isolates and dampens higher overtones, enhancing low-end and attack, and enabling a broader tuning range. Unlike conventionally damped heads, the EC2 will not choke at higher tuning ranges, or lose its full-bodied presence when tuned low.

"The EC2's Edge Control technology separates it from the ranks of other damped heads," remarks Evans Brand Manager Michael Robinson. "The Edge Control ring does not interfere with the important connection between the head and the drum's bearing edge. In addition, its stress-relief slots let the ring flex with the vibration of the head, allowing it to succeed where other damped heads fall short: it controls edge vibration instead of completely removing it, which makes for a livelier sound with the attack, low-end, and focus that players covet."

Evans EC2 tom heads are offered in sizes 8" to 16", and are now available to all markets.
