Michael Kelly today released details of its new Legacy Plus Mandolin. The Legacy Plus breaks every rule you've ever come to expect from a moderate priced f-style mandolin. First off, the Legacy Plus is, like all Michael Kelly mandolins, constructed of all solid wood with a solid hand-carved spruce top. You'll also find a radiused rosewood fretboard for ease of playing, reliable Grover tuners and Michael Kelly's new exclusive design one-piece tailpiece.
This new hefty tailpiece (weighing in at close to double some well-known tailpieces) is designed to transfer the maximum amount of string vibration to the body, providing increased tone, ringing sustain and volume. With some one-piece tailpieces, string changes are difficult and sometimes the overall visual appeal can suffer. Not with the Michael Kelly tailpiece – its specially designed "cover" hides the area where the strings meet the tailpiece, while the easily accessible mounting system makes string changes quick and easy when compared to other one-piece tailpieces.
