Michael Kelly recently introduced the new Valor Custom and Patriot Custom guitars in Anaheim, California during the winter 2006 NAMM show. Now for a twist, both the Valor and Patriot receive a dose of the "Limited treatment." Both the Patriot Limited and Valor Limited will feature figured exotic wood tops in distinctive spalted maple, followed by burled bubinga and bird's eye poplar.
With all of their obvious visual appeal, it's important to remember that Michael Kelly guitars are first and foremost, "built on sound", and the Valor Limited and Patriot Limited are certainly true to Michael Kelly's mantra. Their tone comes screaming out in crisp growling heaps - in part thanks to the new Rockfield SWC (Select Wound Custom) pickups. The Rockfield SWCs are constructed with the best available USA magnets and wire for versatile quality tones ranging from full and biting twang when in split-coil mode to clean gnarly and grungy grind in full "bucker mode - (both pickups are also coil tapped). Both models have an adjustable Tune-O-Matic bridge with (unique to the Limited models) string-through the body feature, which gives the Limited models a slightly darker tone than their Valor and Patriot Custom brothers.
The all-new Michael Kelly Valor and Patriot Limited models are sure to please the ears and the eyes of even the most discriminating player and rival many instruments costing a fair chunk more.
Limited models will be available beginning August 2006. Manufacturer's retail price is currently estimated at $715. For more information, visit their web site at www.MichaelKellyGuitars.com.
