All-Star Jam Featuring Gary Hoey At Antone's In Austin

July 14, 2006

Legendary Austin live music club Antone's will host the Peavey All-Star Jam on Friday, July 14. Doors open at 7 p.m. for this eclectic showcase, which features guitar monster Gary Hoey and a cast of Peavey artists ranging from Nashville outlaw Willie Heath Neal to Nashville star Megan Mullins, to regional favorites Tia Carrera and Lucas Martin.

Gary Hoey, a highly influential guitar virtuoso whose new album American Made arrives this summer from Surfdog Records, will headline the concert and preside over an all-star jam featuring surprise guests. Hoey launched his career with the hit song "Hocus Pocus," which shot to the top 5 in Billboard on the strength of his fiery fretwork. He followed with the soundtrack to the surf saga Endless Summer II and a string of albums that cemented his status as a demi-god among surfers. With the help of his Peavey amplifiers, American Made takes him into meaty American riff rock.

"I've always been attracted to Peavey, but when I played through the Triple XXX® amplifier, I knew it was definitely part of my new sound," said Hoey. "The Triple XXX has brought out the sound of my new record, American Made, which is a very powerful, straight-ahead rock album. The amp has tremendous low end and power, and that makes a very big difference in a power trio. It gives you that girth that shakes the stage."

Willie Heath Neal—who has toured with Hank III and Reverend Horton Heat—will perform his set of driving outlaw country that mixes punk rock energy with the hard-life storytelling of Hank Williams, while recent "Nashville Star" backing artist Megan Mullins will showcase her Broken Bow Records debut, Ain't What It Used To Be.

Austin locals Tia Carrera, featuring Son Volt bassist Andrew Duplantis, will carve out their noisy psychedelic niche that the Austin Chronicle described as "Jimi Hendrix jamming with out with Dale Crover [of The Melvins]." Sixteen-year-old guitar wunderkind Lucas Martin will support with a Stevie Ray Vaughan-inspired set. Antone's and KLBJ-FM, Austin's Rock Classic, are co-sponsoring the event.

Peavey will display its latest musical instruments, amplifiers and sound equipment at the Summer NAMM (International Music Products Association) trade show, exhibit #1746, July 14-16 at the Austin Convention Center.
