ME-33 from Boss Adds COSM Amp Modeling

January 19, 2001

Leave it to the creative minds at BOSS to unleash what’s sure to be the most devastating, best-sounding and easy-to-use guitar multi-effects processor on the block: the new ME-33 Guitar Multiple Effects. This compact, floor-based multi-effects processor gives guitarists a wide range of new innovative BOSS effects, onboard COSM Amp Modeling, 24-bit sound quality and Quick Edit knobs for instant tone tweaking—all under fast, intuitive control.

The ME-33 serves up a full compliment of 24 BOSS effects, including everything from killer overdrives and distortions, reverbs, chorus, and delays to unique effects like Auto Riff (automatic riffs from a single note), Harmonist (intelligent pitch shifting), Acoustic Guitar Simulator, and a new Feedback parameter found in the overdrive/distortion effects which provides instant and realistic amp feedback at any volume. Any nine effects are available simultaneously, and 60 memory locations are provided to store effects patches for instant recall.

But great effects are only half the story. Thanks to the power of COSM Guitar Amp modeling, the ME-33 also delivers stunning models of six classic and modern amp types—from ultra-clean to bluesy to full-on thrash metal. And unlike some guitar multi-effects processors, the ME-33 lets users tap into these killer amp models and the overdrive/distortion effects simultaneously.

Thankfully, ME-33 amp models and effects sounds can be adjusted on a whim using six familiar Quick Edit knobs (Gain, Tone, Modulation, Reverb, Delay and Level) and a large backlit graphic LCD. A new Easy Tone feature even gives users quick access to preset sounds depending on the style of music being played: Rock, Blues, Country, Hard Rock, Metal or 7-String.

The ME-33 goes the extra mile by providing an onboard expression pedal that’s instantly assigned to control a cool-sounding effects parameter. For 7-string guitarists, the ME-33 also has an auto tuner that can tune a low "B", as well as patches optimized for bottom-heavy sounds.

Battery power or AC (optional) lets guitarists take the ME-33 just about anywhere, while a built-in Phrase Trainer and Auxiliary input lets users record and play back riffs from CD’s or tapes—the perfect tool for slowing down and learning those difficult riffs.
