E-MU / ENSONIQ has announced the XL-7 and MP-7 Command Station tabletop instruments, which contain powerful multi-track sequencers and 128-voice synthesizers. Each Command Station features 128-note polyphony, a multi-track pattern based sequencer with real time, grid and step recording capabilities, 13 velocity sensitive pads, 32MB of ROM, three additional ROM expansion slots, digital output, and loads of performance knobs, buttons and switches. The XL-7 and MP-7 will be available in early Spring, 2001. Each has a US retail price of $1,695.

Sequencer Power

The XL and MP-7 both feature a brand new, highly innovative multi-track sequencer. "The XL-7 and MP-7 processing power is enormous, allowing you to punch in and out, and enter into all three different recording modes without ever stopping the creative process," comments Sean Wilhelmsen, Director of Product Development. Providing three ways to record -- Real Time, Step, and Grid -- the XL and MP-7 can be tailored to the user's recording needs. Both products feature a sophisticated song mode that allows you to chain patterns in a cue list, and dedicated Mute/ Select buttons that allow you to bring parts in "on the fly." This feature is perfect for remixing. The XL and MP-7 features a large pallet of editing tools including cut, copy, paste, quantize, swing, and many more.

Amazing Sound Capabilities

Featuring the award-winning synth engine from the Proteus® 2000, the XL and MP-7 come standard with 128 voices of polyphony, 12th and 6th order filters, exclusive multi-channel pattern arpeggiators, DRMS synthesis, 16-part multi-timbral capability, and a 24-bit dual effects processor. With three extra expansion slots, you can choose from a large selection of Proteus 2000 Sound ROMs to enhance and increase the types of sounds in your XL and MP-7. "The XL and MP-7's control surface is designed to provide quick and intuitive ways to edit your sounds," Scott Emmerman, VP of Sales and Marketing, Americas, explains. "Users have requested that we marry our powerful synth engine with a control surface that would enable them to dig into the hundreds of parameters that the synth engine provided. The XL and MP-7 make sound design easy and incredibly effective."

Performance Tool

As a performance tool, the XL and MP-7 provide numerous functions, allowing you to interact with your sequences and sounds at an extremely high level. Performing, sequencing and editing take center stage. An extra bonus of the XL and MP-7 is that their controllers are not limited to their internal sounds only, but can be used to control other MIDI gear as well. The XL and MP-7 have been designed to be complete MIDI controllers. For example, each controller knob can be assigned to its own MIDI channel and controller number, enabling you to customize the way you interact with all of your gear. All of the XL and MP-7's controller setups can be stored into multiple multi-setups. The XL and MP-7 have 13 velocity sensitive pads, touch strip, 16 programmable and quick-edit knobs, direct jump keys, sequencer transport, two displays and trigger keys. The Complete Package The XL and MP-7 provide high-powered integration of all aspects of performance, sequencing and composition to Dance and Hip-Hop musicians and producers. "These products are unique because most products targeted toward these users are less than professional," Sean Wilhelmsen comments. Other interesting features of the XL and MP-7 include optional rack ears for mounting in a standard 19-inch rack, six analog outs, S/PDIF out, dual MIDI outputs and numerous factory sequences programmed by some of the best sound and demo designers in the industry. "The XL and MP-7 were designed to help you create, but if you need an idea to be inspired from, the
