Geoff Gould is the guy who founded Modulus Graphite, purveyors of fine bass guitars featuring graphite necks. Goulds instruments set new standards in terms of the stability and performance an electric bass can offer.
Gould eventually sold his company and nowadays heads up G. Gould Music, purveyors of fine bass guitars with wooden necks.
This may seem to be an odd turn of events, except that Goulds current designs feature an innovative U-shaped graphite bar to add stability.
It makes the neck very stiff and very powerful, Gould said of the U-shaped brace.
The advantage, Gould said, is that his new basses preserve the character, look and feel of a traditional wooden neck.
Im designing these to be high performance basses, Gould said. I also design them to be beautiful and comfortable.
Goulds current line includes traditional Fender Jazz Bass style instruments as well as four, five and six-string modern designs featuring quilted tops and ergonomic shapes. The basses are largely hand made in small quantities. For more information, visit www.ggould.com. |
