January 22, 2001
Fourteen years after the original debut of the super slim Ibanez S guitar, Ibanez is poised to hit the music industry with a slew of new S axes. "Thats because the S has all the features the contemporary player wantscomfort, playability, versatility and lots of options in electronics, necks and hardware," said Bill Reim of Ibanez who helped design the S in 1986. "S guitars have the sustain and heavy tone of mahoganywithout the heavy weight."
Over the years, the super sleek S has found adherents in every genre from rapcore to gospel and Ibanez has expanded the S into four different series: the original S, the S-Classic, the flat backed SA and the entry-level GSA.
One of the most eye-catching new S models is the S370. Added Reim, "The S370 features some very cool modern finishes like our new Red Rock Flat. But the price is also going to turn some heads--a price this low, on an S of this qualityon any guitar of this qualityis unprecedented."
