PRESS RELEASE

Mackie's HR824 Reference Monitors Now THX pm3 Approved

January 20, 2001

Mackie Designs Inc. has announced that the HR Series HR824 High-Resolution Active Studio Reference Monitor has been THX pm3 approved, Lucasfilm THX.

Scott Garside, Recording Products Marketing Manager for Mackie Designs, states, "We are very pleased to have received THX pm3 approval for our HR824's. It's important to us that we are able to help our customers for whom DVD production, video post and film mixing have become so audio-critical. The Professional Multi-channel Mixing and Monitoring standard is an important key to delivering the first-class audio experience that audiences have come to expect."

The small room certification program, called THX pm3 for Professional Multi-Channel Mixing and Monitoring, was announced by Lucasfilm THX in June 1999. The program provides standards for a rapidly growing category as new applications for 5.1-channel sound, such as home video, television and music, boost demand for multi-channel mixing The THX pm3 program applies the technologies and expertise developed over the last 15 years to the smaller rooms increasingly in demand. Based on an analysis of the issues affecting small space mixing and monitoring, the program establishes new equipment and room acoustics specifications that provide two key benefits. First, THX pm3 makes it easier to design and build rooms that provide the proper environment for monitoring transfer quality. And second, it ensures that a multi-channel mix will deliver consistently accurate results.

The increasing cost of mixing films on large dubbing stages, coupled with the growing number of multi-channel television, DVD and music mixes being done in small control rooms indicated to Lucasfilm THX a need for a small room standard. The development of such a standard is a natural extension of the THX Theatre and Mixing Stage certification programs.

The HR824 incorporates a compact design with power response so flat that it serves as a completely neutral conductor for any audio signal. These near-field monitors are an excellent choice for professional recording studios, video, audio and post production suites, project recording rooms and any environment where critical listening is a stringent requirement.

These high resolution, active studio reference monitors uses a mass-loaded, resistivity-damped, 6th-order system design employing an 8.75" driver and a mass-loaded passive driver (rear) powered by its own internal active biamplification.

The HR824 US Suggested List, Per Pair, is $1499.00.
