PRESS RELEASE

Roland Introduces MT-90S Music Player

January 20, 2001

oland is proud to announce the MT-90S Music Player, an affordably-priced Music Tutor designed primarily for music students as well as other applications. Offering the simplicity and portability of a metronome, the MT-90S uses a GM2/GS-compatible sound source and built-in speaker to play Standard MIDI Files (SMFs) loaded via an internal 3.5" disk drive. Combined with its ability to display SMF song lyrics, the MT-90S is ideal for practice, worship and karaoke applications.

Like all Roland Music Tutors, the MT-90S loads and plays most commercially available Standard MIDI Files using an internal 3.5" disk drive. Song data can then be played back at any tempo including part mute capability. A high-quality GM2/GS sound engine provides realistic instrument sounds that make practicing and performing with the Music Tutor fun. An internal speaker is used for sound output; no additional audio equipment is needed.
Designed with music students in mind, the MT-90S features icon-based buttons and a user-friendly 16x2 character backlit LCD to make operation simple, even for beginners. And the MT-90S is lightweight enough to be taken anywhere using the built-in grip handle, while its compact size permits placement on virtually any surface. With the MT-90S, music students can practice at home, at school or anywhere with the benefit of having a their own personal Music Tutor to guide them.

Since data can be played back at any tempo, the MT-90S can become a virtual accompaniment tool for singers when used in worship applications. The MT-90S can even display the song lyrics of compatible SMF files on the LCD, a feature both worship services and karaoke enthusiasts will appreciate. And with the new Intro Countdown, students and performers will never get lost; the MT-90S automatically adds a countdown before the melody begins. Echo effects can also be applied to the Microphone input for additional fun.

Connections to the MT-90S include stereo outputs (RCA type), a Microphone input, Headphone output (stereo mini-jack type), MIDI In connector, and a pedal jack for controlling Start/Stop. A 3.5" floppy disk containing music data and games designed for interactive learning is also included.
