January 23, 2001Steinberg Media Technologies AG announced the release of Nuendo 8 I/O 96k,
an 8 channel analog-to digital and digital-to-analog converter which uses the
reference approach. Nuendo 8 I/O 96k is a flexible, fully professional yet affordable
multi-channel
converter. The compact 19" 1U rackmount enclosure features Intelligent Clock
Control (ICC), SyncCheck, SyncAlign, TDIF/ADAT converter, and a Bit Splitter.
AD- and DA- circuits can automatically operate either independently or linked.
The latest 24-bit converters with 128 oversampling achieve more than 110 dB in
real dynamic range. All digital inputs and outputs operate at full 24-bit resolution.
Features include:
- 8 channel AD-Converter follows a completely symmetrical audio path, 116 dB
ADC's from AKM
- 8 channel DA-Converter offers balanced output, 113 dB DAC's from Analog Devices
- ADAT optical inputs are 24 bit, based on RME's unsurpassed Bitclock PLL for
sample accurate lock
- ADAT 24 bit optical outputs, , are fully compatible with all ADAT optical
inputs
- TDIF-1 interface, 24 bit, Low Jitter PLL, Emphasis support, is DA-88 compatible
- Bit/Split/Combine is a Yamaha 02R-compatible technique for recording 24 bit
data onto 16 bit machines
- Copy Mode adds a unique 24 bit ADAT to/from TDIR converter
- Bit/Split Combine, Copy Mode, ADAT and TDIF are usable in all combinations
- Digital Patchbay operation allows the user to copy, duplicate and distribute
the digital input signals
- Automatic storage of all settings
Intelligent Clock Control (ICC)
The Steinberg Nuendo 8 I/O 96k's Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) provides
features not to be found on apparently similar devices. ICC enables a flexible
operation with internal clock (44.1 / 48 kHz and 88.2 / 96 kHz in DS mode), external
word clock or the digital input signals. The DA converters have the same range
of options. Integrating a Nuendo 8 o I/O 96k into a system that can be synced
to a wide variety of other devices is undoubtedly its greatest strength apart
from its shear audio quality.
SyncCheck & SyncAlign
The Nuendo 8 I/O 96k will probably be part of a larger system: And the larger
the system, the greater that chance of configuring a setup such that perfect sync
is not maintained across all digital inputs and the word clock inputs. In a less
than perfect system dropouts and crackles can occur. To ensure that a complete
system is a working system, the Nuendo 8 I/O 96k incorporates SyncCheck to give
an immediate display if there are sync conflicts with your system. The Steinberg
Nuendo 8 o I/O 96k has SyncAlign to guarantee absolute data alignment across all
digital outputs.
Flexible Gain Architecture
To make the best of the excellent dynamic range of the AD converters, the
input level switch steps through the Nuendo 8 I/O 96k's three input sensitivities:
Low Gain, +4 dBu, or -10 dBV. Similarly the output level can be independently
selected form High Gain, +4 dBu, or -10 dBV.
Inputs can be accurately calibrated to the audio source with the signal present
& signal clip indicators provided. Each analog output has its own 'Signal
Present' LED which works in an analog fashion (brighter at higher levels).
In combination with the Steinberg 96/52 PCI card, the 8 I/O 96k will allow
DVD-compatible recordings up to 8 channel @ 24-bit/96kHz. This means that you
can record a DVD Audio CD at full bandwidth in full surround at an incredibly
low price. For more information, visit their web site at www.steinberg.net. |
