January 18, 2001Yamaha Drums expands on the popular Absolute Series line with
the introduction of the Beech Custom Absolute Series at Winter NAMM 2001. Like
its Maple and Birch counterparts, the Beech Custom Absolute offers drummers yet
another option in creating a custom high-end kit. A variety of new models (denoted
with the prefix WCA) will be available beginning March 2001.
"With the addition of Beech to the Absolute line, Yamaha now has more
choices than any other acoustic drum company for high-end drum sets," explains
Jerry Andreas, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. "Drummers can mix and match
Maple, Birch and now Beech within the series to customize their sound for any
application."
Features include 100-percent Beech shells: 6-ply, 7.5mm tom and snare drums
(1.5mm thicker than the Maple and Birch Custom Absolute) and an 8-ply, 10mm bass
drum. Also included are 2.3mm triple-flanged DynaHoops on the toms and snares,
and chrome one-bolt design "Absolute-style" lug casings, allowing the
drums to resonate more freely and deliver a more "open" sound.
Toms are equipped with Remo Clear Emperor heads, while bass drums come equipped
with Remo Powerstroke3 heads. All bass drums boast five air holes for faster venting
and a punchy attack while the 18-in. bass drum incorporates a floating system,
which elevates and supports the drum, allowing the beater to strike the center
of the head. Matching wood snare drums are available in two sizes: 14 in. x 5
1/2 in. and 14 in. x 7 in.
Shared finishes with the other Absolute lines include Cherry Wood, Solid Black,
and Vintage. Finishes unique to Beech Custom include Earth, See-Thru Violet, Royal
Metallic Blue and White Marine Pearl.
