Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Digital Musical Instruments, offers professional and beginning dance music creators an innovative production option with the debut of the DX200 Desktop Control Synthesizer at Winter NAMM 2001. Delivering the same punchy, metallic, evolving and harmonically complex sounds that only Frequency Modulation synthesis can produce, the DX200 also features an intuitive, real-time interface which enables hands-on control over every sound parameter and the 16-step sequencer. The unit will be available in the first quarter of 2001.

"Modern Electronica seems to have an insatiable appetite for new and innovative synth sounds," states Athan Billias, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments. "Yamaha more than meets that demand with the DX200 and its new approach to a popular synthesis format."

The 16-note Step Sequencer (1 FM synth track + 3 rhythm tracks AWM) resembles the functions of a classic analog step sequencer found in vintage synthesizers. In addition to 16-note polyphony and 256 preset patterns, the DX200 allows the user to program up to 128 voices and offers four effects: Distortion, Delay, Flange and Chorus. There is even a separate resonant Low Pass Filter for creating phat, punchy dance tracks. The 4-track-per-pattern "Free EG" enables the movement of a parameter's knob, synched with b.p.m., to be recorded and played back. Other features include two-scene-per-pattern memories, two 1/4-inch phone plug outputs, MIDI in/out, and bundled XGWorks Lite sequencing software for the PC, plus voice editor software for Mac and PC platforms.
