EV Announces N/DYM Drum Mic Kit

January 23, 2001

Electro-Voice is featuring its new N/DYM Drum Mic Kit, a selection of the industry-leading microphone and mounting hardware, at Winter NAMM. Designed for on-the-road professional drummers and studio pros, the kit comprises two N/D468’s, one N/D478, one N/D868 and a rugged, APA "Secret Service" style aluminum case.

Grammy award nominees and chartbusters alike have chosen N/DYM microphones to keep their tone "intact." Papa Roach, Slipknot, Static-X, Hed PE, P.O.D., Ultraspank and Eight Stops Seven all feature N/DYM mics on their drum sets. Static-X employs nearly the entire line of N/DYM micsæcharacteristically known for their outstanding clarity, ultra-low handling noise, minimal proximity effect and ultra-high outputæon drummer Ken Jay’s kit, including an N/D468 on the rack tom; two N/D468’s on the snare (top and bottom); and two N/D868’s for kick drum and floor toms.

Michael Mordente, engineer for P.O.D., says, "The N/D868 has the kind of beef and dependability we need. It’s great for capturing a crisp attack and the meat without unnecessary EQ. Unlike other mics, you don’t have to worry about the N/D868 element poppingæit’s totally dependable."

A dependable and stellar performer in any mix, the N/D468 performs even in the highest sound pressure level (SPL) situations. Characterized by smooth and accurate response, the swivel-headed N/D468 can penetrate even the tightest spaces, capturing the essence of tom sounds where no other microphone dares to reach.

The N/D478 makes the perfect snare microphone with its supercardioid pattern. If you want to capture that "thwack" the way your vintage snare sounds before a microphone is placed, this is your microphone.

The stalwart N/D868, lauded by industry professionals and drummers across every musical genre, is the kick drum mic for the new millennium. Designed specifically to make the kick drum "move" the music, the N/D868 features the extended low-frequency response necessary to tighten up any live or studio mix with little or no EQ.

These four EV N/DYM drum microphones come housed in a "Secret Service" style reinforced aluminum case (est. value $150) supplied by APA. Strong enough to withstand all the rigors of the road—and also very cool looking—all you’ll need is a pair of handcuffs to complete the kit…and believe it, with the way these mics sound, you’ll need to keep your eyes on the case.
