Fostex VF-08 Hard Disk Recorder

Fostex recently introduced the VF-08, an all-in-one digital recording solution, combining an 8-track hard disc recorder with an 8-channel digital mixer / editor, complete with A.S.P. digital effects.

"We're really excited about the potential of the VF-08," says Phil Celia, Fostex Director of Marketing and Sales. "Now for the price of a cassette mulitracker, customers can enjoy the power of digital recording."

The VF-08 features ultra-high quality 16-bit, 44.lkHz audio with 8 recording tracks plus 16 additional virtual tracks for multiple takes. A large, upgradeable, 3.5-inch E-IDE hard drive provides over two hours of non-compressed 8-track recording, the most in its class. Optional SCSI interface is available for backup with .WAV file import / export to external media

Inputs 1& 2 feature phantom powered balanced XLR inputs and unbalanced phone jack inputs, trim controls, on / off switches and peak LED indicators. All channels provide 2-band EQ plus 36 presets. Audio scrubbing is accomplished via a jog wheel with a graphic waveform display. And of course easy, non-destructive audio editing is offered by way of Copy / Move-Paste / Erase commands.

The mixer section also offers a choice of 10 preset mastering libraries: Flat, Wet Mix, Light Mix, Live Mix, Pop Mix, Dance, Hard 70's, Hall and Lo-Fi Mode. A Mastering Mode offers independent preset digital A.S.P. effects with a 99-mix scene memory on tracks 7 & 8 making mixdown easy and full of creative possibilities. A unique training mode allows playback at a reduced speed without changing the pitch. This is especially useful for learning a favorite lick.
