John Scofield Signature Guitar from Ibanez

January 23, 2001

The Ibanez AS200 was the longest running Ibanez production guitar. The man who made it famous was jazz great John Scofield who played the semi-acoustic axe for over two decades. "Which is why the time had come to make official what everyone knew in the first place—the AS200 was for all intents and purposes John’s signature guitar," said Bill Reim of Ibanez. "But the JSM100VT isn’t a rebadging of the old AS200. John took his favorite features from each of the many AS200’s he had played and said ‘this is what I want in my own model.’ Plus, the guitar has all new features. The new JSM100VT not only features a compound radius fretboard, it’s also has the first hand finished Prestige neck we’ve ever put on one of our jazz guitars."

In addition the JSM100VT features the traditional semi-acoustic maple back and sides and Super 58 pickups. An untraditional feature for a semi-acoustic is the side-mounted output jack that’s more convenient for the player, less likely to cause damage to the top, and leaves the tonal integrity of the top uncompromised.
