January 21, 2001

Tama will offer a Starclassic Maple Set that features a highly figured outer ply of premium chestnut wood. Tama has only enough select chestnut wood for approximately 80 kits worldwide. Which is why retail dealers will only be able to place orders until February 2001. "An exotic wood drum kit like the Starclassic Chestnut/Maple SGB is a great way for a drummer to show he or she has arrived," said Koji Kamada of Tama Drums. "But in this case, it's also a smart way to show your individuality-even though the wood is select and our supply very limited, we've decided to keep the price down to just 10% more than a standard Starclassic Maple kit. Price aside, this is one of the most beautiful kits we've ever made." The Starclassic SGB limited edition series features a maple shell with one outer ply of select chestnut finished in Sierra Gold Burst. Background info: Tama's top of the line drum series, Starclassic Maple Series, debuted in 1994. The drums feature super-thin shells of premium maple, die-cast hoops, and the Star-Cast free suspension mounting system on all the rack toms. Starclassic Maple drums are the choice of a wide range of top drumming professionals including Al3, Tim Alexander, Kenny Aronoff, Frank Beard, Charlie Benante, Paul Bostaph, Bill Bruford, Stewart Copeland, Mike Cox, Abe Cunningham, John Dolmayan, Stefanie Eulinberg, Raymond Herrera, Rayford Griffin, Bobby Hewitt, Rodney Holmes, Dave Lombardo, Mike Malanin, Barrett Martin, Marco Minneman, Simon Phillips, Mike Portnoy, Morgan Rose, Joel Rosenblatt, David Silveria, John Tempesta, Lars Ulrich, Joey Waronker, Ron Welty, and many others. There are literally thousands of ways a Starclassic Maple drum can be ordered, as drums can be ordered in over 15 hi-gloss finishes, and well over 50 different drum sizes. Gold shell hardware is also an option. Although Tama does stock some kits, most Starclassic Maple sets are made to order. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.tama.com/.
