Behringer Introduces Upgraded V-Amp

January 22, 2002

With the new V-AMP 2 (price tba), BEHRINGER introduces an updated version of its V-AMP virtual guitar amplifier. The successor to the V-AMP, now features 32 amp and 15 speaker simulation models for authentic reproduction of a full range of classic guitar tones and cabinets. The V-AMP 2's sound repertoire ranges from pristine clean to tube-like crunch and mega-distortion. It was designed with the most discerning musician in mind to deliver sound quality that matches or surpasses that of comparable modelers at only a fraction of their price.

According to company founder Uli Behringer, "We've been listening to the many V-AMP users and recording artists in recent months and have spared no efforts in refining the V-AMP. We are now very proud to be able to offer an even better V-AMP that offers incomparable sound quality and features in its class. We believe it is the most authentic modeling amp on the market."

Along with improved sound quality and S/N ratio (now 90 dB), the V-AMP 2 offers twice as many amp models and numerous new useful features: 16 additional, authentic virtual amplification models for a total of 32, ranging from classic American and British tube to custom boutique amp variations. More effects parameters can now be directly accessed on the unit, while a new preamp bypass function allows the V-AMP 2 to be used as a stand-alone stereo effects unit without amp or speaker simulations. The new freely configurable presence control simulates the negative feedback of classic tube amps. With its 5 new configuration modes, it is now possible to easily adapt the sound to various studio and live applications. For use as a front-end tone-shaping tool, the V-AMP 2 features a globally adjustable 3-band EQ with amp-model dependent characteristics that can be set as required to match the unit's sounds with different amps and combos.

The 15 speaker simulations are directly selectable and freely combinable with any of the 32 amp models. Like its predecessor, the V-AMP 2 features 24-bit stereo multi-effects effects including delay, chorus, flanging, tremolo, compression and rotary speaker simulation, as well as resonance effects like phase-shifting, auto-wah and even a wah-wah pedal simulation. Extensive MIDI implementation allows complete real-time remote control and automation, data transfer and access to additional parameters. For those guitarists who want to delve even deeper, the special V-AMP 2 editing software can be downloaded free of charge from the BEHRINGER web site. The software allows extensive computer-based editing, storage and control of all parameters and presets. Total preset compatibility for existing V-AMP sounds is guaranteed. For all VAMP users who want to upgrade to the V-AMP 2 software, free firmware is available from BEHRINGER as an Internet download.

The V-AMP 2 shares the original V-AMP's transparent user interface with its direct display of settings, illuminated dials and an easy-to-read LED display, which make it easy to see and change settings in low stage lighting. An adjustable auxiliary stereo input allows musicians to plug in a CD, drum machine, or any other playback device for practicing, teaching, or home recording applications. Like its predecessor, the V-AMP 2 includes balanced stereo outputs and a headphone jack, and ships with a sturdy metal dual footswitch for preset selection in an attractive carrying bag. The optionally available BEHRINGER FCB1010 MIDI FOOT CONTROLLER enables complete remote control of parameters and settings.
