Emagic Announces Logic Platinum 5 January 31, 2002
Emagic announced Version 5 of Logic Platinum. Boasting a plethora
of new additions, as well as enhancements to existing strengths, Version 5
is a milestone in the evolution of Emagic's professional music and audio production software.
New Automation System
The automation system has been fundamentally revisited in Logic Platinum
Version 5. The automation system, which now handles 32 Bit fader values,
is tied to individual Tracks, rather than Arrange window sequences and
audio regions.
When these objects are moved or copied, the automation data can be moved
or copied with them. Automation data, sections, or automation nodes, can
be moved or copied independently of sequences and audio regions. Track
Automation write modes are independent of the sequencer "Record" mode and
track selection.
Automation data can be edited in realtime or off line, using several new
modes. Automated parameters are descriptively displayed with their name
and values.
Now more than 50 plug-ins in Logic Platinum
The number of integrated plug-ins continues to grow in Logic. New in Logic
Platinum 5 are: Adaptive Limiter, SubBass, Phase Distortion, DeEsser, Clip
Distortion, Tremolo and Exciter. Also included are several
mastering-plug-ins: Stereo Spread, Denoiser, Limiter and Multiband
Compressor.
The new side-chain in the mixer of Logic 5 allows the input of an external
signal to be used as control signal. This means that over 50 high-quality,
Emagic-developed plug-ins are now delivered with the flagship product
Logic Platinum.
Integrated Synthesizers
Logic Platinum 5 offers three integrated subtractive, analog software
synthesizers: the ES M, a monophonic bass synthesizer; the polyphonic ES P
to create patches; and finally the synthesizer for ensemble sounds, the ES E.
More Audio Instruments
Up to 32 Audio Instruments are supported in Logic Platinum 5.
New Scrubbing Functionality
Version 5 also adds hardware-independent audio scrubbing -- regardless of
the audio hardware or drivers used.
High-End Dithering
Logic 5 includes the high-quality algorithm from the POW-r-consortium for
optimal word-length reduction.
High Quality Audio File Support for the Entire Logic Series
Logic's longstanding 32 Bit audio engine has already set the standards
regarding audio quality, reliability and performance. With the release of
Version 5, all products in the Logic Series will offer support for 24
Bit/96kHz, ensuring access to the widest possible choice of audio hardware.
Score Editor Enhancements
Further enhancements to Logic's integrated DTP-quality score editor add to
the program's versatility. These include Multiple Page View, which
automatically adjusts to optimally fit the current screen size with
respect to selected zoom levels, and a new step-time input and editing
facility with freely assignable key commands. Notation of aliases plus the
ability to color notes for easier polyphonic score editing and educational
use round out this aspect of the Version 5 update.
New File Format Support
Version 5 incorporates REX2.0 support, allowing the import of
Propellerheads' REX2.0 format files directly into the Arrange window or
EXS24. Also new in Logic 5 is the possibility to import and export
OpenTL-Files.
New Hardware Control Integration
Logic Platinum 5 can be fully integrated with Mackie Design's new Logic
Control hardware system, offering complete hands-on control over hundreds
of MIDI and audio functions, including the new automation system.
New copy protection: the XSKey
The new XSKey -- Expandable System Key -- replaces all previous Emagic copy
protections like dongles and CDs. This programmable hardware key for the
USB port includes the license for Logic 5 and also temporary licenses for
all Emagic software instruments: after the first start of Logic 5 users
can try out all Emagic software instruments for one month without any
restrictions in functionality. To get an unlimited license for the Emagic
software instruments you just pay for a special XSKey code, which will
then be sent via e-mail or mail.
