Roland Debuts RMP-1 Rhythm Coach Pack

Practice Pad with V-Drums Technology

January 20, 2002

Roland is proud to announce the new RMP-1 Rhythm Coach Pack--an electronic practice pad system which lets students practice with 28 different drum sounds only they can hear. The Rhythm Coach Pack's mesh V-Practice Pad (RP-2) and Rhythm Coach sound module (RM-2)--also available separately--provide everything students need to work on their technique privately at home or in school. With a built-in metronome and battery or AC operation, students can practice anywhere.

With its patented mesh head design, the 8-inch RP-2 V-Practice Pad has the natural feel of a snare drum, but with silent triggering that allows students to practice without disturbing others. The feel of the tensionable pad makes it great for practicing drumming techniques such as rolls, paradiddles or any of the snare drum rudiments.

The Rhythm Coach includes a built-in metronome with 11 sounds--including a counting voice--and its display shows students if they're ahead of, or behind, the beat. The RMP-1 also contains enjoyable rhythm training exercises that help develop a student's timing, speed and stamina. For example, the "Quiet Count" exercise plays the metronome loudly for eight measures and then quietly for the next eight, helping students improve their timing by relying less on the metronome during the quiet sections.

Unlike a traditional practice pad that produces a single rubbery "thwak," the Rhythm Coach includes 28 high-quality drum sounds from which the student can choose. This makes practicing more like performing, and more fun. The drum sounds can be played via headphones for completely silent practice.

The RM-2 module has two pad inputs for the connection of a second player or a separate kick drum pad, such as Roland's KD-7--ideal for practicing snare and kick together. It also has an audio input for playing along with a CD player or other audio source. An optional PDS-2 Pad Stand makes practicing more comfortable.
