FINAL SCRATCH (RealVideo) is a unique and patented technology that allows real-time manipulation and even scratching of digital music files such as wav and MP3 by a vinyl record. FINAL SCRATCH bridges the gap between digital and analog, giving DJ's access to digital files through a turntable with a performance that is no different from traditional vinyl.
The FINAL SCRATCH first release, FS10K, includes:
- A software package
- A turntable interface that connects the turntables to a PC via USB port
- 2 coded records
The vinyl records contain nothing but a time code track that the computer can understand. With the coding like this, you can even needle-drop your MP3 files!
The turntable interface handles all the necessary audio I/O, eliminating the need for a sound card. The time code from the two turntables is carried to the computer, and the actual audio returns from the computer to the interface. The audio is then routed to your mixer. You have the same controls as before, but you are no longer limited to finding all the tracks you need on vinyl.
One of the powerful aspects of Final Scratch is the ability to quickly sort and browse the equivalent of dozens of albums from the computer. You can preview your entire collection with the included software in a fraction of the time it would normally take.
Do you have to give up all your vinyl when you're using Final Scratch? Not at all. You can use your traditional vinyl on your turntables, and there's no need to rewire the setup when you make the switch.
Initially, Final Scratch will only be available for Linux and BeOS operating systems running on an Intel compatible CPU. A Mac version is planned.
