Richard Riley is a full time producer, musician and writer living in the south west of the UK with wife Jo. When not producing music in his home studio he's either writing about music technology for the UK press, playing guitar in a number of bands, or selling guitars for a local music store. Richard is a published author of The Electric Guitar Handbook (PC Publishing 1998) and numerous reviews, columns, and features for Total Guitar magazine, PC Plus, PC Guide, Future Music, The Mix, MP3 Magazine, Computer Music. The Guitar Magazine, and The Melody Maker among others. Richard has been playing guitar for 28 of his 39 years in venues as diverse as Abbey Road Studios and The Old Grey Whistle Test for numerous artists both famous and not so famous.
"Cool Edit is such an inspirational piece of software to use but it doesn't get as much attention as it should," Riley said today. "I've been using Cool Edit since 1997 to produce and create music for bands, singers, radio shows, theatres and tours. Through the software I've learnt a great deal about how to produce music that doesn't just sound good in my studio but through PA systems and PC speakers alike. Cool Edit Pro Version 2 is an exciting development as the software now includes real time effects and EQ, video and MIDI support, and a whole host of other features that will enable the user to remain within the high quality, easy to use Cool Edit environment from first recording to burning the final mix to CD. Instructions for the whole process are included in the book along with non-technical explanations of how digital recordings are made, instructions for fine tuning your PC, creating your own instruments using Cool Edit pro Version 2, plus tips on mastering and managing your sessions.
Alongside the book are tutorial files created for the book by the author, samples and finished tracks produced using Cool Edit Pro Version 2.
