System 6000 Software Updated to Version 2.5 January 17, 2002
TC Electronic has announced software
release 2.5 for their multi-award winning System 6000.
International Marketing Manager, Stephan Israel, says: "I believe we
already have a very powerful and versatile System 6000 multi-channel
processor, but as a front-edge manufacturer we are continuously striving to
refine our tools and technologies to stay ahead of the market. The inclusion
of the Massenburg EQ in the 2.5 software is an example of the refinement
process adding to the broad palette of tools available on the platform,
while the precision Limiter represents the ongoing process of developing new
technologies for the Flagship processor."
Software release 2.5 for System 6000 includes:
MDW HiRes EQ
In recognition of George Massenburgs great sense of audio and strong
influence on previous TC products, one of his creations is now offered as an
addition to the licensed processing options. The high-resolution environment
offered by System 6000 brings out the best qualities in George's design. The
MDW HiRes EQ uses up-sampling at 44.1 and 48 kHz as a way of getting closer
to analog versions, yet maintaining the digital precision. It also runs at
high rates in 2 and 6 channel configurations. There are 5 parametric bands
per channel and 4th order filter capability on the lowest.
The MDW HiRes EQ complements the ones already built into the System, and
provides the user with a choice between several desirable EQ flavours.

New precision Limiter
This new broadband limiter introduces an all-new technology, and uses
up-sampling, 48 bit processing and adaptive time-constants to reduce
intersample peak level and distortion. This way the main reasons for
distortion during reproduction in consumer equipment can be eliminated at
the source, hence improving the sound quality at play-back level.
The limiter is bit transparent to the 24th bit when not limiting, and can
even be used to remove intersample peaks on already dithered masters.
Operating modes are Stereo and Dual Mono.
Being part of the MD3 and MD5.1 packages the limiter is license free for
existing users.
De-Esser
A new Dual Mono/Stereo precision De-Esser is also introduced. At 48 bit
resolution throughout, parametric and shelving filters are available in the
entire range between 20Hz and 20kHz. The extended frequency range plus the
unique selector between Relative and Absolute Threshold detection makes the
algorithm much more than a plain vanilla De-Esser.
Automation
External control and automation of individual parameters has now been
implemented. This enables the user to automate System 6000 from e.g.
ProTools or Cubase and keep automation data in one place. External MIDI
control complements the built in SMPTE timecode reading capabilities already
present.
Any parameter in any preset can be assigned and controlled externally,
because the implementation uses standard MIDI Controllers supported by most
devices capable of transmitting MIDI.
TC ICON Editor for Mac
The TC ICON Software Editor now also supports Mac. It has the same
functionality as the hardware TC Icon remote, and can run on the same
computer, which does editing or sequencing. The remote control Mac has to be
equipped with Ethernet and operates under OS9. It is possible to run the Mac
Editor simultaneously with multiple ICONs.
