Vox Reissues the Clyde McCoy Wah-Wah Pedal

The original Clyde McCoy Wah pedal of the 1960s is once again available from the original manufacturer

January 17, 2002

VOX created the first Wah-Wah pedal while designing a device using a variable version of the "VOX MRB" (mid-range boost) circuit made famous in their amps of the day. That pedal recreated the sound of a muted trumpet. VOX recruited Clyde McCoy, a famous trumpet player of the day best known for his expressive use of the trumpet mute, as an endorser of the pedal. The original 1960s VOX Clyde McCoy Wah-Wah pedals became one of the most sought after vintage effects by collectors worldwide. Now VOX Amplification is re-issuing this legendary effect with some modern enhancements.

True to the design of the original pedal used by many influential guitarists of the British invasion, the circuit of the latest VOX Clyde McCoy Wah-Wah pedal is centered around a custom-tuned inductor made by an original manufacturer of this tone-critical part, FASEL. As a result, the VOX Clyde McCoy accurately recreates the full range, throaty Wah sound of the original. In addition, updated features have been incorporated that take nothing away from its classic sound: a true bypass switch, a newly designed custom taper potentiometer for super-smooth pedal response, and an AC adapter jack.

VOX has paid particular attention to detail when designing this re-issue, and just like the original, it has a sketch of Clyde McCoy on the bottom plate, plus a new gray Hammertone finish. The VOX Clyde McCoy Wah-Wah pedal comes complete with Vinyl carrying bag.

The VOX Clyde McCoy re-issue Wah-Wah pedal is available immediately with a suggested retail price of $250.00.
