Yamaha's mLAN networking system provides a solution for complex music production systems by allowing multiple channels of digital audio and MIDI information to be transferred via a single IEEE1394 standard cable, greatly reducing the number of discreet connections. Yamaha Professional Audio brings this connectivity to the popular AW4416 Professional Audio Workstation and 01V Digital Mixer with the Winter NAMM 2002 debut of the MY8-mLAN card, the newest addition to Yamaha's line of compact, convenient Mini-YGDAI plug-in cards.

"The beauty of mLAN technology is that powerful systems can be easily configured with compatible musical instruments, computer products, interfaces and other devices," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Professional Audio. "It was only logical to extend that same high-speed network connectivity to our digital workstation and mixing products."

Providing eight channels of I/O, the MY8-mLAN card inserts into one of the designated MY card slots on the AW4416 or 01V. Included mLAN Patchbay software provides convenient audio and MIDI signal routing on a computer-based system, eliminating the need for extra PCI cards or interface hardware. The MY8-mLAN card carries an MSRP of $599, and is currently available.

"What once was a complex setup--such as a hard disk multitrack recording system--can really be simplified with this new card," states John Schauer, product manager, Professional Audio. "Networking is the next wave in providing maximum system flexibility and reliability."
