PRESS RELEASE

Mike Mangini and Zildjian Team Up for Signature Drumstick

January 17, 2002

The Avedis Zildjian Company introduced the Mike Mangini Artist Model drumstick, expanding their Artist Series line of drumsticks. Mike is known for his work in Extreme, Steve Vai, Mullmuzzler and Tribe of Judah, while also serving as faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston and his high-energy clinics. Mike is also author of the acclaimed drum books "Rhythm Knowledge."

The Mike Mangini Model utilizes a unique phenolic resin enhanced and laminated Birch material that give the stick remarkable characteristics. This material is extremely consistent in weight, which allows every Mike Mangini Model stick to meet Mike's precise weight requirement. The material yields consistently straight and great feeling sticks. The higher than normal weight produces excellent durability and projection. The stick measures 16 1/5" inches long and is 0.585 inches in diameter. Mike's Model also features Mike's "Superhero" typeface in Black. The stick is constructed at the Zildjian Stick Factory in Moundville, Alabama.

"This is absolutely awesome to have a stick that is really consistent and has the meat to allow my hands to work properly. These sticks have a feel that is truly unique and fits into my playing system. " said the designer, Mike Mangini.

According to Zildjian's General Manager of Drumsticks, John Sorenson, "This material opened a lot of doors for us as far as being able to control the weight, straightness and overall heft of this stick without it becoming too cumbersome. Mike has extremely good hands and this material allowed us to make something that worked better for him."

Mike joins the already impressive lineup of Artist Series Models including Sonny Emory, Cindy Blackman and Manu Katche.

List price is $15 a pair.
