EC-2 96kHz A/D/A Converter Upgrade for Alesis' ADAT HD24

January 21, 2002

Alesis now introduces the new EC-2 96kHz A/D/A converter board upgrade option for the HD24 24-track hard disk recorder. These new converter boards will incorporate state-of-the-art 24-bit analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters capable of greater than 110dB dynamic range and providing ultra-low distortion, even at nominal sample rates of 44.1kHz and 48kHz. Fully balanced analog I/O is provided on 1/4" TRS jacks.

When installed, the EC-2 will replace the current converter boards in the HD24 with new boards capable of recording and playing back twelve channels of audio at nominal sample rates of 96kHz and 88.2kHz, as well as 24 channels of audio at standard sample rates of 44.1kHz and 48kHz.

With its proprietary, patented method of writing to the hard drive, the HD24 was the first hard disk recorder to employ a disk writing technology designed exclusively for the purpose of recording music. Unlike the writing schemes employed by computer-based systems, the HD24 dramatically reduces fragmentation of data, and required "seek time," providing a much greater level of stability in recording and playing back data. Its exceptional ease of use and friendly interface has made the unit one of the most popular – and well-respected – digital recording systems in the world today.

The HD24 provides the ability to cut, copy, paste, insert and move tracks and segments effortlessly. Functions can be controlled from the HD24 front panel, or optional remote control. Alesis also provides multiple ways to export audio for additional processing and graphic editing. Rear panel Ethernet connection makes HD24 files accessible to computers in industry-standard AIFF or WAV formats. Additionally, the HD24's 24-bit ADAT optical I/O allows simultaneous, real-time transfer of 24-track material to computer audio cards and other products using ADAT optical format.
