Aphex Unveils Model 207 Preamp at NAMM

Aphex Systems has announced the release of the new Aphex 207. The product made its debut at the Winter NAMM Expo in Anaheim, California.

Packing the combination of the main circuitry of the award winning Aphex 107, the 207 includes the patented Reflected Plate Amplifier tube circuit, along with the patented MicLim circuit of Aphex models costing hundreds of dollars more.

The 207 is a two-channel tube microphone preamplifier and instrument DI featuring MicLim, the world's only mic level limiter. Especially important for keyboards, synthesizers, bass, and acoustic guitars, as well as vocals, the Aphex mic level limiter controls the transient spikes that could ruin that otherwise perfect take. Vocal and instrument tracks are transparently recorded without concerns of overload or distortion allowing the performance to flow. Low level signals and natural room reverberation are no longer lost in the noise floor. The instrument DI is extremely quiet (over 90dB dynamic range) and the MicLim provides distortion-free peak protection for the DI inputs as well.

The 207 offers painless setup with its intelligent design. Featuring a front panel instrument input, headroom metering and clip/limit LED indicators the Aphex 207 provides convenient access in a sleekly designed chassis. The switch mode power supply means the unit is always ready to work anywhere – no need to change internal or external switches.

The Aphex 207 features –129dBu EIN, up to 65dB of gain, 20dB Pad, Low Cut Filter, Polarity Reverse and Output Trim to allow proper level match to the following input stage for optimum signal to noise performance. All mic level signals pass directly through bifurcated gold contact relays–not through degrading or distortion generating switches.

The Aphex 207 is available in January 2002 at a suggested retail price of $649.00.
