PRESS RELEASE

K 171 Studio and K 271 Studio Headphones from AKG

K 171 K 271
January 17, 2003

AKG Acoustics debuted the K 171 Studio and K 271 Studio headphones at Winter NAMM 2003. These new studio headphones feature AKG's Varimotion XXL transducers used in the K 141 Studio and K 240 Studio models. The AKG Varimotion XXL technology delivers pristine sonic definition, wide frequency response and lifelike dynamics.

"The K 171 Studio and K 271 Studio have great sound, excellent comfort and exceptional acoustic isolation," states Mike Torlone, Market Development Manager for Studio Products. "Thanks to their low-impedance and high sensitivity, these headphones are also perfect for use with computers, keyboards, CD players and other low-output devices. The closed-back ear cup design permits them to be used in noisy environments or on stage."

The K 171 Studio combines the benefits of a closed-back design with the lightweight and comfort of supra-aural headphones. The closed-back design, combined with the new transducer gives the K 171 Studio a different low-frequency character than the K 141 Studio, yet maintains its comfort. The K 171 Studio has a frequency range of 18 to 26,000 Hz and weighs only 7.1 oz without cable. The K 171 Studio has a detachable 10 ft / 3 m input cable with a screw-on gold plated mini to 1/4-inch jack. Its low-impedance and high sensitivity gives the K 171 Studio 10 -- 12 dB more output than the "classic" AKG 141 Monitor.

The K 271 Studio combines the benefits of AKG's circumaural "around-the-ear" design for extreme comfort with a closed-back design for maximum isolation from ambient noise. The XXL transducers assist the K 271 Studio in achieving a balanced, rich sound. The K 271 Studio is the perfect choice for applications, such as broadcast, where sonic bleed can cause problems. Another important feature of the K 271 Studio is the addition of a switch in the headband that mutes the audio as soon as the headphones are taken off. The K 271 Studio has a frequency range of 16 to 28,000 Hz and weighs 8.5 oz without cable. Its detachable cable is 10 ft / 3m in length, and the screw-on adapter has a gold plated mini to 1/4-inch jack.

Both models feature advanced ergonomic design, AKG's patented gimbal ear cup suspension and leatherette headbands to conform to the size and shape of the user's head. These new closed-back headphones are ideal monitoring tools in studio and broadcast environments, on-stage or DJ applications. In addition, they are perfect for home entertainment use and can be used with hi-fi gear, computers and MP3 players.

The AKG K 171 Studio headphones have a list price of $159.00, while the K 271 Studio headphones list for $199.00.
